DZ BIO

Like the band title, DZ consists of only two parts, that being Shane Parsons
and Simon Ridley. For some people, it is hard to comprehend a mere two piece
with the ability to create wall of sound, yet this is a feat which DZ have been able to conquer with results fashioned from a statically charged mix of Death From Above 1979, Daft Punk, No Age, The Bronx, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Sunn 0)) and Lightning Bolt. With this combination of influences as ammunition they create a blend of driving monster beats firing over an avalanche of guitar similar to a squadron of attacking Panzer tanks.

Their conquest to date have been noticeable, especially for two guys that started a band so they could play at house parties– so far they’ve been

Since the beginning of 2009 they’ve kept up a furious touring regime, either off the back of their own tours or supports in major bands or festivals. They’ve accompanied
Tame Impala, British India, I Heart Hiroshima, Die!Die!Die! (NZ), Cut Off Your Hands (NZ), The Temper Trap, Wolf and Cub, Philadelphia Grand Jury Art Vs Science Ratatat  Biffy Clyro Midnight Juggernaughts and played Come Together Festival, My Filthy Riot, Coaster Festival, and Park Life (Bris/Syd) – just to name a few!

Attracting the eye of major labels everywhere, DZ once again defied the norm and inked a deal with Brisbane indie label, Useless Art Records – a label that seem to match DZ’s party attitude and style.

After spending recent months honing their skills in explosive live shows across Australia, DZ entered Incremental Studios and produced the EP, Ruined My Life, with Cam Smith. It was then taken to Big Jesus Burger, home to The Drones, The Mess Hall, Wolfmother, and Presets fame and was mixed by the masterful Berkfinger.

Ruined My Life was released early September to sell out shows with the EP gaining critical acclaim from taste makers and music press all across the Australia. They then released the Single Blue Blood, a mix of heavy guitar and trashy beats – again to critical acclaim and regular airplay nationally and to community radio stations alike.

Now the duo are releasing their second single Teeth, a biting blast of fury that Andrew WK would love to party down to. Triple J has already made Teeth the song for the Spot Light artist segment and now receives national regular airplay as part of AusMusic Month.

With more festivals underway, such as Sunset Sounds (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Moby, Datarock) and an overseas tour planned for next year, DZ seem fit to spread their infectious thrash party sound across the globe.

What the media say about DZ.

"Brisbane newcomers DZ whip up a storm of frenzied grooves powerful enough to
rattle the teeth of the throng of punters already amassed front of the stage.
Front man 'Z' wrenches a monstrous racket from his Fender Tele, backed by 'D'
who absolutely pummels his kit as only an angsty skinny kid can."

Dan Simmons - Time Off Magazine

"Local boys DZ open proceedings tonight, their sharp, shouty rock tinged with
psych elements unusual in a two-piece. There's an intensity to them similar
to Melbourne's Eddy Current Suppression Ring minus the bucket loads of hype…”
Topher Healy - Rave Magazine

“…they kept each song grounded and forever driving in rich and textured
riffs, thunderous low tones and high impact percussion. All in all a
confident ride into refreshing somewhat-new territory.”

Jessica_Kill – Faster Louder

“… loved every minute of them. Very energetic performance, great stage
presence, thundering drumming and howling guitar (though they could go a
little easier on the strobe lighting). Definitely a band to look out for.”

If DZ were a religion it would be concerned only with house parties, tequila and 'club banger' tunes. This EP would be the bible of said religion and its philosophy would be rammed down your throat at 2000 decibels and 150 km/hour.

Bec Evans - Four Thousand

I’m really liking the sound of DZ - it has such a great raw, edgy, early Death From Above sound to it Plus the film clip for Mess Up is tops!
